Dash 2

Postby SAWMAN10 » Tue Apr 23, 2013 2:40 am

Hi all,

I finally have enough money in the paypal account to place my order.

I plan to order the Dash 2 and the only change i am looking at is replacing the 180 with a longer extension to move the parrot out so I can use a bigger boiler.

What other changes would you reccommend ?

Willl I need everything that comes with the Dash 2 ?

I would love to have the SD 120l boiler, but i will be going with the Hillbilly 26 gallon boiler.

I am starting out well over my head, but I hate to by a smaller unit then have to upgrade.

Thanks for sharing all of your knowledge..

Howdy.

I do not have a Dash2.

This is one of the things that I considered when starting my still. I decided to not use the 180* and to go with a 90* and (2) 45*. This will give you the option to run the shotgun at a 45* and distance the parrot from the boiler.

Sawman10, I have a Dash 2 SGK and grabbed a few extras but aren't a necessity. I'll list them below with some info on them.

2x Thermotees to monitor your Dephelgm and product condensor temps. These are a good price for what they do.
It's also handy to grab another alcometer, and use a little s/s mesh in the bottom of your parrot - just in case the alcometer is dropped inside the parrot
A few extra feet of cooling hose. Initially, enough hose is supplied, but I chopped & changed my hoses using different configurations.

Later I added a [urlhttp://www.stilldragon.com/triclamp-pipe.html]4" x 20" TC pipe[/url] for stripping runs, so I didn't have to use the tees for height. Just 1 SG tee below the TC pipe and 1x above to watch for pukes.

I hope that helps

Hi Phitler,

Thanks for the help.

The Dash 2 comes with 2 thermo tees, did you buy 2 more?

I love to have a few spares handy, and would have ordered another set regardless  I'm still learning how to run the Dash 2, each run gives me more experience.

Shortly, I'll attempt a FSW (Fine Scotch Whiskey) spirit run using 3 plates, as Coopervillehas recently done.

Buy a few more gaskets than you need, also. An extra clamp in each size is also a good idea.

especially the 3/4 sizes. They have a way of getting munched up.

Thanks , this is the kind info that I am looking for.

Cooperville, you are saying to keep the short 180 and just add 2 more 45's ?

What are people using to add a temp probe to measure vapor temp ?

I think if you use 90* and (2) 45* you pretty much get the same as 180* and (2) 45*. It will pull some of the weight of the product condenser closer to the column buy roughly 4". Not as top heavy.
Good Luck!
