How far apart do centering rings need to be in a 4" packed column please?

About every 1/3 of the packing length from the bottom and then at the top of the packing ... in another set of standards i found

2/10th from the bottom and then one at 5/10th from the bottom then at the top... under the deflagmator or reflux condenser

best info i got... hope it helps

In 2" columns an ideal distance in between collars is around 50cm based on my tests. Since 4" column has more issues with reflux distribution I wouldn't go any longer and it might be worth it to try shorter distance.

We have actually gone beyond collars these days, it's sieve technology that rules now

BTW, why is it so quiet in all forums nowadays? I mean I admit being guilty of having gazillion other things to do and being away, but it seems like there are one or two column distillation related posts / month these days. There used to be a continuous discussion a year or two ago.

Does anyone have an example of what a centring ring looks like or how to build one?
