I'm not familiar with all the "fancy" columns you all use. What is the advantage/purpose of the offset near the top of the column?

I may need to be "put down" soon.

Mate as a plated column distiller I find it hard to comment ...but I like the idea and execution looks excellent. Cheers.

Zombie, saw it in a book from Ian Smiley. Making pure corn whiskey! As this is my first attempt I don't have all the answers , Im sure there are better heads than mine who can answer your question. the first pic shows the tongue in the horizontal piece to allow the alcohol to return down the center of the packed column after it hits the reflux condenser.

My third attempt at posting this. Damn!

I looked up the book, and found this Pict. of your rig. I am assuming it is a simplified version of this other Boka column.
Bottom line seems to e reflux is relative. The real difference is in how efficient the rig is.. Just my perspective.

Anyway, I'm sure you will enjoy tuning it up, and it sure looks cool! Congrats! 8-)

I'm working on a crazy horizontal column design so we are both facing a learning curve.

Good Luck!
