Stainless Column

Postby Bushman » Mon Jan 06, 2014 5:04 am

I have been eyeing this for 2 years. It's a stainless pipe with an ID of 10" and an overall length of 16'. It's been sitting on a community lot that I have one-thirtieth interest in. The person that put it there is a big wig at an oil refinery and he planned on capping some wood piling on the community dock with it. Nothing has been done but if I were to go commericial I could think of a good use for it.

Man you could make some nice stuff with that. What i would do is make two stills with it one 12 plate column for neutrals and one 3 plate for flavoured drinks.

I see him more in the summer when everyone is hanging down by the lake. He has left it there for 2 years and not sure he is going to use it so I am going to approach him probably in the spring.

I like the way your thinking, if I get it I will give careful consideration how I use it!

So, you've been stone drunk for two years and just looking at that?
If your conscience is on your back, at least talk to the guy and offer to do some community service for it.

10" diameter is almost a boiler.

?? Didn't say I was going to just take it, in the winter seems like most folks are indoors and he spends a lot of his time south in the warmer climate so if I decide I would use it I will ask if he wants to sell it or work out a deal. I have my own dock and when he upgraded his boat lift I bought his old one.

IMHO, You could make a couple little 1 1/2 gallon boilers, for decoration or actual use. That should help recover whatever the pipe may cost you

. A 10" column would take a flux capacitor to heat, and you would have to get it too at least 88 mph for it to even work. Just my humble opinion.

I may need to be "put down" soon.

In the back of my head I was thinking about making a thumper with a small section as well!.

10" should hold about 4 gallons per foot. So about 1'-6" should be good for a keg still.

Or a bunch of nice corny kegs ... which keep getting more expensive.

LOL...I wasn't accusing you of thinking of stealing it...I was saying if it were me, I would have had to have been drunk to not have figured how to get it by now. Or I might have stole it!

It needs a friend who'll love and care for it.

I think I hear it calling "Bushman....Bushman", ever so softly.

Totally understand, it's been on my radar for sometime but other projects (building a grain mill, furniture for my son, etc) and moderator on another forum has taken a huge chunk out of my time.

EG, 16 feet is a large chunk and as a master builder I would be interested on your suggestion for use!

I'd make a 15' tall 10" plated column
Save a foot for the RC.

Hey, you asked, that's the best answer I can come up with
Might need to invest in a good ladder...
