Hi dock tried for a better drawing with no luck basic its a 150 liter boiler gas heated with a 2 in line out the top over the side down to a 4 in bubble tower
Virtually the sane as still dragon only its beside the boiler
Does the reflex need to go all the way back to the boiler or will just up and down the tower do the trick
I have been trying to find photos of commercial setups as they have that setup

Ahh got it mate... Sorry I am a bit thick some times... Is the idea to reduce height...I have seen some commercial stills particularly the German ones which have this configuration, I can't help with advice but if I can find some photos I will post them. Thanks for the explanation.

Not experienced at all in this process but I believe that once vapour condenses from the column back into the lower bend, the pool of liquid may cause you massive problems including back pressure.

Cheers.

You would need a reflux return line back to the boiler with some sort of vapor lock.

Not sure what your striving for but you would need a return line
or you could run your line from the primary boiler to a thumper
and mount the still head to that.
How you cooling things?
Probably would help to flesh things out a bit with your goals and needs.
Good fortune takes preparation.

Agree with the others. The returning reflux from the column needs to be delt with.

A return with a vapor trap. Is one opinion. Problem with that is then you have to have the column as high as you would if it was mounted to the boiler. You mite be able to get a little saved space considering the headspace in the boiler.

A pump of some sort is another option. Little more complicated. And something else to monitor.

And a thumper is an option. This is the route I've thought about the most. Building a thumper to sit under the column. I would say 1/3 the size of the boiler. To make sure its big enough to hold what ever you mite get. And that's generally the amount you get from a stripping run. So you would be covered. The thumper being smaller will give you more room above it for the column then the higher boiler. And you get one more plate out of the deal.

Or you could just drain it into a tank and add it to the next run.

Just my two nickles.

No Smaug knows how to add a skylight for added still height. :laughing-rolling:
Although they don't let light in and aren't finished off. :confusion-shrug:

I really like the idea.
After seeing a lot op pro stills with a setup like this and knowing that hight is a problem for a lot of home distillers, i find it strange that this setup did not get more attention.

just me thinking :confusion-confused:

The thing is it requires a dedicated boiler/column system that very few (hobbyist/micro) manufacturers offer. Even SD prides itself on being modular, and this type of setup doesn't seem to lend itself to being modular.

looking good I like the modular approach, however i think you need a couple of mods / extra bits....

- a way to join the bottom drain of the 2nd column to the 1st - would need a p trap between the 2
- why have the input to the 2nd column doing a reduced 90* to the bottom? why not just come straight in like the 1st column?
- why have the bottom drain of the 2nd column so high? no plate so no need. do it like column 1
- column 3 will need a dephlegmator as well otherwise no reflux and no loaded plates

I would not hang the 2 colums off each other / off the boiler - too much stress on joints. You'd need to mount it on a table or some sort of platform

sorry for confusion but same column, just 2 differnt setups
1 just regular flute, and the other has a thumper at bottom.
just some wacky ideas floating around in grey matter, to try out later
and yes the column will be sitting on a table.

Yes it will be similar, to the holstein's. with ability to even run in pot still mode, just bypass the column.
i'm really interested in how product difference, will be between setups.
I have a 30 gallon ferementer, so can run same wash with different setups.
