A rip in the space time continuum

This morning I was training my housemate to do a spirit run on 50 litres of rum strip.
Off I go to work and he sends me this picture with the caption "Bullshit!"

I reply: "Did you drop it in before the liquid was up? You've broken it.

Reply: Nope.
Reply: Checked with another and it said the same.
Reply: Weird

I reply: That's impossible. Try the alcohol refractometer.

Reply: Tastes amazing :handgestures-thumbupright: :handgestures-thumbupright:
Reply: Tweeks shotgun (reflux) shotgun cooler, now going back to 94

I reply: Unfu--inbelievable! Wow! The universe must have had a hiccup!

Reply: Either that, or I'm awesome.
Reply: Yeah... something went wrong with the space time continuum. LOL

If the liquid your measuring is hot, you can get high readings...very high at 45-50 degrees lol

I got some very wonky readings when I was running my still in my very hot garage late last summer. Must have been very hot in there.

Yes, BF was correct, there wasn't enough cooling water going through the product condenser.

I have very occasionally seen anhydrous alcohol produced at lest once where temps were checked and several hydrometers used. I have no idea how maybe some sort of low pressure in the column maybe the packing dried the spirit , one thing I will say is it doesn't last as the ethanol will pull water out the atmosphere to return to its azeotropic state.
