Live chat forum...looking for opinions

Postby JayD » Wed Jul 09, 2014 12:18 pm

Hi Folks,
I hope this post finds all members in good health, as all are probably aware I have been re organising and tidying up our forum. I have also been investigating new ways to make this forum better...much better. Do you think a live chat forum would be an asset for us? it would give you the chance to talk to members around the world to discuss ideas and generally have a laugh together...let me know what you think? :handgestures-thumbupright:

I am not sure what a "live chat forum" is. If someone is on line it sort of is that IMHO.

Do you mean like those help chat boxes that open for technical advise? I really see no difference.

You are doing on hell of a clean up here tho... I admire the efforts.

I may need to be "put down" soon.

IS it costly JayD? I am on MT's on a daily basis used to go to AD's some but not may people there...

It can be a fun thing depending on the crowd and topic of the conversation...

As far as I am aware it is a free program once we see enough support for this it may go ahead... :handgestures-thumbupright: topic of conversation can be what ever the folks want to talk about.

Sounds positive Jay.

And please excuse my technical ignorance if the following question is a silly one

Is there the potential for live chat to be farked with by clowns who wish to cause trouble, and is this easily monitored?

Unfortunately there will allways be clowns however chat will subject to our normal rules of conduct, hopefully we are mature enough to be respectfull of others opions.

Sounds like a great idea. May be different rooms for different subjects. Sone chat rooms jave "report" buttons for the onrs who get out of hand.

I haven't chimed in on this...but in general I support the idea of live chat, but it is up to the members and JayD.

I go to the chat on EG's forum every once and a while but can say everytime I visit seems like the same guys on. Seems to be working for the ones that use it.
I started my liquid diet and so far it seems to be working! I've already lost two days.

Could it be the time has come to dust off and fill some long vacant board chairs so the site can continue forward?

Have you got admin priveleges now JayD? To install mChat, you need to upload the mod files via FTP first. I am pretty sure the Doctor would have the ftp login details lying around. If he needs a reminder, it looks like this forum is hosted by digitalpacific.com.au

That this is the only active topic for the past 7 days, says a lot for the need for something that might rejuvenate some interest here. This is a great forum that could use a shot in the arm.

JayD, I completely understand where you're coming from. I was a Unix systems administrator for a number of years and know the pitfalls of making changes/additions to a live system. Anything that can go wrong will go wrong. It takes a significant amount of planning and forethought to successfully pull it off. One thing this hobby teaches us is patience. If you decide to move forward with this, be patient and remember that you have the support of the members here.

Good luck to you, whatever you decide to do.
