G'day PaPaBear. I have a PDA-1 as well, and was wondering if the 2" to 1" reducer is a design requirement of the still.

I know the reducer helps to retain the copper packing (ie stops the copper packing from dropping into the boiler), but does it also act as a lower centreing ring? I'm just throwing the question out there, as I'd love to hear the answer ;-)

Would be great to see pics of your final build too PaPaBear :handgestures-thumbupright:

Philter I am far from being an expert,But I don't see any benefit from centering into boiler. I am going to add a torpedo between boiler and still and Minime said he would remove reducer and I was thinking the same thing. Open it up more steam going up. what abv are getting from your pda-1 Im getting 92 abv from 12% gerber wash with 1500w hotplate(soon to change) pics coming soon PaPa Bear

G'day PaPaBear, that makes sense. I'm running a 4" ferrule on my 50L/13Gal keg, to a 4" to 2" reducer then the PDA-1 2" to 1" adapter and pulling 95% ABV. I have a combined 1500W/2100W that I can seperately control from 5%-95% power as required (I also use this boiler for the StillDragon Dash 2, hence the 4" keg ferrule).

Phil

Philter, that dash 2 is beautiful and from what I've read the best of both worlds (depending on how you set up) My controller should be here friday and I don't think 95 abv will be a problem for me eather Hence no more cycllng and ordering torpedo soon (maybe 96) we shall see. Have fun and stay safe PaPa Bear

The Dash 2 is a great all-rounder and converts from a pot still by removing the bubbler plates, 3 plate whisk(e)y still to a 6 plate neutral still. I've bought extra StillDragon bling to make things easier. I'm also building on my knowledge of operating the Dash 2. The PDA-1 still has a place, but isn't used very much.

Please keep us updated on your torpedo-addition and results. The controller will make operating much easier as well :handgestures-thumbupright:

OK, got my controller from Big pa (looks like a nice little unit) like the long lead. Also talked to Smaug, said he sent my element guard this morning. As soon as it comes in I will run my still as is (no mods) untill ez flanges are in stock. Then I will order torpedo and ez flange. can't wait to run with proper heat PaPa Bear
